Hear, O Israel: Rereading the Shema through Modern Jewish Poetry

This discussion will consider ways in which modern poets such as Primo Levi, Eliaz Cohen, Chava-Pinchas-Cohen, and Marcia Falk have drawn on, responded to, and reinterpreted the traditional Shema.

Naomi Sokoloff

Professor Naomi Sokoloff has taught modern Jewish literature and Hebrew at the University of Washington(Seattle) since 1985. Her most recent book is "Boundaries of Jewish Identity," co-edited with Susan Glenn  (UW Press 2010).
